Lead Product Engineer

Overview of PositionResponsible for the creation/maintenance of engineering configuration management to include engineering drawings, flat patterns, artwork files, 3D CAD model data and BOM.
Analyze customer, regulatory, and contractual requirements to establish product design and configuration control measures to ensure compliance.
Analyze internal/external customer requirements to develop new product concepts.
Lead and manage design and development activities within a product group focus.
Acting technical authority as it pertains to process and design of various products within a product family.
Key Deliverables and ResponsibilitiesTranslate internal/external and regulatory requirements into engineering design documentation, test and validation plans, and product build specifications.
Work on a project within the Product Development Process and create deliverables to achieve or improve product performances, cost & specification as well as project budget and schedule.
Conceptualize, design, and develop various products including plastic and rubber injection molded parts.
Develop and present R&D summaries to Management and Leadership.
Be able to manage and delegate tasks to other Engineers.
Provide technical support and presentation of data for the marketing and sales team.
Review and/or conduct product validation and verification testing for production part or process approvals.
Research, analyze and certify product against regulatory requirements such as NFPA, CE, and NIOSH.
Work directly with suppliers on technical issues or projects with the support of the purchasing department as required.
Provide technical assistance in resolving customer issues promptly and efficiently.
Assist in quality aspects of the engineering design by identifying key quality characteristics and/or methods required to ensure product conformity to the design, user, or regulatory requirements.
Support manufacturing with aiding in work instruction generation, technical guidance on process settings and aid in development/implementation of new manufacturing test/build equipment as needed.
Troubleshoot product and assist in root cause analysis as well as corrective action implementation.
Creating and maintaining engineering documentation (drawings, user instructions, 2D/3D CAD data), Bills of Materials.
Provide design support for new product development, custom quote and custom design modifications.
Executes any other instruction as assigned by Director of Engineering.
Required qualifications, skill & ExperienceBachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment or related field.
Experience in working within an ISO quality system is a plus.
Strong understanding of basic Engineering principlesStrong 2D and 3D CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred, Surfacing experience a plus.
Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and FEA a plus.
Efficiency in using Microsoft tools like Project, Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc.
Adept in Bill of Material, Assembly drawings and work instructions creationAbility to use simple hand tools as well as operate light machinery.
Must be a good team player as well as an individual contributor.
Experience in product development, program management or sustainment engineering.
Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, experience with design for plastic or rubber injection molding and material selection desired.
Bi-Lingual French/English is a strong plus.
Fluent verbally and written in English required.
Experience working with contracts and within regulatory requirements is a plus.
Experience with 3D printing a plus.
Experience with ERP systems a plus, Epicor/IFS a plus.
Experience in lean manufacturing and root cause analysis is a plus.
Experience with product certifications such as NFPA, NIOSH, etc.

Good troubleshooting and analytical skills including root cause analysis.
Ability to exercise self-supervision, follow verbal instructions, function in a team environment.
Sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks effectively to ensure deadlines are met and to execute/close out projects.
Ability to interpret schematics and/or drawings, and to have familiarity with GD&T.
Ability to travel outside the US, primarily to Canada, on an as needed basis.
Approximately 25% travel time.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
